Delta Defeats ACC
Despite holding leads in both the second and third sets, Alpena Community College lost a home volleyball match against Delta College, 25-15, 25-22, 25-22.
"I think this is one of the best matches we've played all year," ACC coach Courtney Holmes said. "I felt our team hit a new level of cohesiveness in the way they're gelling together. I'm very excited about that, and I think it's going to help propel us into the last third of our season."
While the Pioneers dominated the first set, in the second the Lumberjacks led 14-11 and appeared to take a 15-11 advantage, however, the officials conferred and overturned a call against Delta, resulting in a point change which then led to a momentum change. Delta outscored ACC, 14-8 the rest of the way for the win.
In the final set, ACC led throughout and held their last lead at 19-18. The set went back and forth with ties and Pioneer leads until after a 22-22 tie, Delta scored the last three points for the win.
Raquelle Miller was tough at the net, posting seven kills and three blocks for the Lumberjacks. Maddi Dipzinski had 20 assists. Sydney Hitzelberger had 13 digs.
Two ACC players with solid overall matches were Kirsten Neubecker with five kills, three aces and three blocks, and Lillian Adams with 10 digs and five kills.
Delta raised its record to 11-12 overall, 3-5 MCCAA Northern Conference. ACC fell to 0-10, 0-7. The Jacks return to conference play on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at Montcalm Community College.
