Lumberjacks Defeat HFC Hawks
The ACC Lumberjacks pulled off a gutsy 83-78 win over visiting Henry Ford College.
The end of the game saw the Jacks hanging on to finish with only six healthy players as they lost starters Lillie Maser to injury and Annabelle Herbolsheimer who fouled out.
Henry Ford led 78-76 with 1:30 to go, but Sarah Wyglendowski scored off a feed by fellow post Brooke Portice to tie it with 1:15 left. A Saige Flaugher steal gave the Jacks possession again with 54 seconds to go. Flaugher was fouled and made one of the two free throws for a 79-78 ACC lead with 51 seconds to play.
On the ensuing possession, Portice blocked a Hawk shot on the baseline and in the scrum for the ball, ACC was whistled for a foul but Henry Ford missed both attempts. The Hawks rebounded the miss however but Flaugher had another key steal with 20 seconds left. As she drove for a shot attempt, she was fouled and made both free throws to close out the win.
Saige Flaugher scored 22 points, five steals, three rebounds and three steals. Allison Cece had a season-high 18 points, including three for four shooting outside the three-point line. Portice logged another double-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds and three assists.
Herbolsheimer tallied 12 points and three steals. Wyglendowski had 12 points and five rebounds.
ACC evens its record at 3-3 with the victory and plays at Olivet on Thursday, Dec. 4.
