Raiders Dominate in 92-45 Victory Over Lumberjacks
The Grand Rapids Community College Raiders (11-5) rolled to a commanding 92-45 victory over the Alpena Community College Lumberjacks (4-6) on Monday evening at Alpena Community College.
The Raiders’ offense proved too much for the Lumberjacks to handle, led by a balanced scoring attack and relentless defensive pressure that forced 53 turnovers. GRCC shot 44.2% from the field and dominated in the paint, outscoring ACC 60-28 in that category.The Raiders established control early, closing the first quarter with a 14-8 advantage. GRCC exploded in the second quarter, outscoring the Lumberjacks 33-13 to take a commanding 47-21 halftime lead. The Raiders shot an impressive 66.7% from the field in the second period while forcing numerous turnovers that led to easy transition baskets.
Alpena struggled to find offensive rhythm throughout the contest, shooting just 35.3% from the field and 14.3% from three-point range. The Lumberjacks were led by Anna Herbolsheimer, who scored 17 points, and Lillie Maser, who grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with 6 points. Brooke Portice added 10 points for ACC but faced consistent defensive pressure. The Lumberjacks’ 53 turnovers proved costly, as GRCC converted those mistakes into 42 points.
GRCC’s bench contributed 50 points, showcasing the Raiders’ impressive depth. The visitors also dominated the glass, out-rebounding ACC 45-42 while creating second-chance opportunities with 20 offensive rebounds. The Raiders’ full-court pressure and aggressive defense created havoc all evening, forcing the Lumberjacks into rushed decisions and difficult shots.
ACC will need to improve ball security and find more consistent offensive production to compete moving forward.
The Lumberjacks will look to regroup and refocus as they begin their conference schedule at home hosting Muskegon CC on Jan. 10 at 1:00 p.m.
