Jacks Lose Tough Season Finale
Like they have all season long, the ACC women's basketball team battled to the end, but couldn't get over the hump, losing at Delta College, 72-61.
The Lumberjacks trailed by 13 early in the second half, but rallied to cut the lead to 46-44 on a Bryce Roy three-pointer with 2:07 left in the third quarter. Delta pushed the lead again up to eight, at 56-48, but two buckets by Allie Urlaub and one by Carmen Dellar slashed that lead again to two at 56-54 with seven minutes to go.
The Pioneers answered with a six-point run to go back up by eight, before Roy drained another three to get ACC back within five, at 62-57 with 3:49 to play.
But the Jacks would get no closer.
Urlaub led ACC with 14 points and four rebounds in her last game for the burgundy and gray. Roy tallied a season-high 12, including 2 for 3 shooting behind the three-point stripe. Emily Jackson had 10 points, three steals and three assists.
"I'm proud of this team," first-year coach Brandon Humphrey said. "We have come so far this year. The resilience they showed throughout the year and the adversity they faced is not for the weak. These ladies proved that tonight as they battled through against a strong Delta team. Though we lost today, we won by playing together, establishing a great program, and creating lifelong bonds and relationships."
In addition to Urlaub, this was the final basketball game for sophomores Makayla Kamyszek, Shaelyn Lampinen, Alyvia Groh and Paige Wooden. Kamyszek and Lampinen will continue to compete this spring, however, as members of the ACC softball team.
