Lady Jacks Pick Up Another Conference W
They say home is where the heart is. And home is where the wins are for the ACC women's basketball team as the Lumberjacks picked up another home victory, this time over Delta College, 64-58.
ACC has won two of their last three at home and hope to keep that trend going Wednesday, Feb. 7 as they host Kirtland Community College.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 24-14 advantage at the end of the first stanza and even after an ACC rally, Delta led 32-29 at the half.
They upped their lead to seven at 41-34 with 4:02 to go in the third but the Lumberjacks then went on a 8-0 run to take a 42-41 lead with 53 seconds left in the quarter. Emily Jackson scored four and Carmen Dellar and Paige Wooden each made two free throws in that key stretch. Delta's Hailee Jefferson sank a jumper near the end of the third quarter to give the Pioneers a 45-44 lead headed into the final period.
Allie Urlaub, returning from injury, scored the first five points of the fourth, on a jumper and a three-pointer to give ACC a lead it would never relinquish.
Delta cut the advantage to three with 5:38 left to play but Urlaub sank back-to-back shots to bump the lead back up to 55-48 with 4:27 remaining.
The Pioneers made one final run, getting within one at 55-54 but missed a potential game-tying free throw. Makayla Kamyszek and Shaelyn Lampinen then each scored to put the game away.
Kamyszek had a dominant 20 point, 15 rebound performance. Jackson filled the scoresheet with 15 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Urlaub scored nine, all in the second half. Dellar had nine points and 10 rebounds.
Tipoff for the Lumberjacks (5-13 overall, 3-4 conference) against the Firebirds (2-9, 1-4) will be at 5:30 p.m. at Park Arena.
