Softball Sweeps Bay in Four Straight
Alpena Community College had an offensive explosion this weekend, keying a softball sweep over Bay College, winning on Friday, 17-4 and 21-7 and on Saturday, 13-5 and 15-9.
The Lumberjacks trailed at different points throughout the weekend, down 3-1 after one inning in game two, down 5-1 after 2 1/2 innings in game three and trailing 9-7 after five innings in the finale, but rallied each time for the victories.
The opening game was highlighted with the hitting of Jena Wambold who went 2 for 4 including a home run, scoring tthree runs and driving in four. Sydney Hitzelberger had three hits and four RBI. Kenna Tippman and Alaina Neubecker each had two hits as well. Dakota Rachow and Faith Cousins scored two runs apiece. Taylor Krentz struck out five in five innings in the complete game win.
Game two saw the Jacks pounded out 15 hits, led by Tippman's 4 for 4, three RBI performance and two home runs by Kirsten Neubecker, scoring five runs. Emilee Modrzejewski contributed three hits, four runs and four RBI. Krentz had two hits and scored twice. Alison Cece drove in two runs while Alaina Neubecker and Autumn Razyaka each scored twice. Claire Blust picked up the pitching victory.
An eleven-run fourth inning gave ACC the come from behind win in game three. Alaina Neubecker was 3 for 3 with two home runs and four RBI to lead the cause. Modrzejewski, Krentz and Kirsten Neubecker all had two hits with Neubecker driving in three, and Modrzejewski and Krentz scoring twice. Krentz was also the winning pitcher, throwing a complete game.
In the finale, a six-run rally in the seventh inning broke a 9-9 tie for the win. Both Neubecker sisters homered with Kirsten having three hits and driving in four runs and Alaina with two hits and scoring twice. Modrzewjewski had four hits and scored twice. Blust was 3 for 3 and scored three times. Krentz was the winning pitcher with 3.1 innings of relief, giving up no earned runs and striking out two.
For the series, Modrzejewski slashed .900/.923/1.000 with eight runs scored and five RBI. Tippman batted .667 and scored six times. Kirsten Neubecker batted .600 with an incredible 1.400 slugging percentage, with three doubles, three homers and 13 RBI. Alaina Neubecker hit .571 also with three round-trippers, six RBI and seven runs. Rachow scored eight runs to lead the team. As a team, ACC batted .487 with an .832 team slugging percentage.
The Lumberjacks are now 11-17 overall and 8-9 in the conference. ACC hosts Delta College (9-7, 12-13) in a key matchup next Thursday and Friday.
