Softball Ends Successful Regional Run
The deepest postseason run by an ACC team in the over 30 years of Lumberjack softball came to an end as ACC lost to Grand Rapids Community College in the NJCAA District 12 tournament semifinals by a score of 8-2.
The Raiders opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, but ACC's Dakota Rachow led off the third with a solo home run to tie the game. The Jacks then scored another run to take the lead as Emilee Modrzejewski was hit by a pitch, Kenna Tippman singled and Alaina Neubecker walked to load the bases. Modrzejewski then scored on a wild pitch to give ACC a 2-1 lead.
However, GRCC wouldn't stay down for long, scoring three runs in the bottom of the third to take a 4-2 lead. The game stayed tight until the bottom of the sixth when the Raiders tacked on four more runs to put the game away.
Grand Rapids then lost in the finals to Lansing Community College, 8-7 and LCC will move on to the NJCAA national tournament in Alabama.
While ACC had twice made the postseason, the Lumberjacks' wins over Oakland CC and Glen Oaks CC were the school's first ever wins in NJCAA postseason play.
ACC finished the season with an overall record of 17-23 and the team peaked at the right time, playing some of their best softball at the end of the season. The future is bright as the program will lose only two sophomores, pitcher Taylor Krentz and shortstop Kenna Tippman.
