ACC Loses at DC3
CENTER LINE, Mich. — The Alpena Community College men’s basketball team put together a strong offensive showing Saturday afternoon but couldn’t overcome Community Christian’s interior scoring and free-throw efficiency, falling 77–67 on the road at Center Line Prep.
ACC (67 points on 37.3% shooting) had three players finish in double figures and outscored Community Christian 43–41 in the second half, but an early deficit proved too much to erase after trailing 36–24 at the break.
Freshman guard Kavon Patterson led the way with an all-around strong performance, scoring 22 points on 9-of-22 shooting while adding five rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Patterson sparked Alpena’s second-half run with several aggressive drives and defensive plays.
Sophomore guard Derian Williams continued his efficient scoring stretch, finishing with 17 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Williams added two assists and two steals while playing a team-high 35 minutes.
Forward Kobe Johnson delivered one of his best offensive outings of the season, scoring 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting and grabbing six rebounds.
ACC pulled down 42 rebounds, led by Jadin Mix and Oliver Duthler with seven each, helping the Lumberjacks stay competitive on the glass against a taller Community Christian frontcourt.
Freshman Oluwatobi Ogunyode added 7 points and 5 rebounds, while Mix provided valuable minutes off the bench with 2 points, 7 rebounds, and steady defensive pressure.
Community Christian earned the win behind efficient free-throw shooting, going 26-of-33 from the stripe (78.8%) and benefitting from 20 points by forward Gabriel Buttram, who also pulled down 17 rebounds. The hosts finished with a slight 53–42 edge on the boards and hit timely shots to keep momentum throughout the first half.
Despite ACC’s late push, the Lumberjacks were unable to close the gap, with Community Christian maintaining a steady lead in the final minutes.
ACC will look to build on its offensive improvements as it returns home for its next contest against Oakland CC Saturday, Dec. 13. The Lumberjacks continue to show growth across their young roster and will aim to turn that progress into results in the upcoming stretch of games.
