Lumberjacks Honor Sophomores in Final Home Game
ALPENA, Mich. – The Alpena Community College men's basketball team paid tribute to three sophomores in their final home appearance on Tuesday evening, falling to Bay College 96-50 at Park Arena.
The Lumberjacks honored sophomores Derian Williams, Jadin Mix, and Derby Kromer before tip-off, recognizing their commitment and dedication to the program over the past two seasons.
Williams, playing in his final home game, led ACC with 14 points and five rebounds in 29 minutes of action. The sophomore guard battled throughout the contest, attacking the basket and getting to the free throw line to finish 5-of-18 from the field and 4-of-6 from the charity stripe.
Bay College (18-6, 7-3) came out firing and never looked back, jumping to a 41-23 halftime advantage. The Norse shot an impressive 45.2% from the field and connected on 17 three-pointers, including a perfect 5-for-5 performance from reserve guard Kyler Sager, who finished with 15 points. Trevor Nolan also went 5-for-9 from beyond the arc, matching Sager's total with 17 points off the bench.
Savion Johnson dominated inside for Bay College, posting 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting along with a game-high 12 rebounds. Trey Frye III added 13 points, nine rebounds, and four assists in a well-rounded performance.
For the Lumberjacks, Kobe Johnson provided a spark with 11 points, connecting on three of his eight three-point attempts. Gary Reed contributed 10 points off the bench, while Aiden Steele chipped in five points in 17 minutes. Sophomore honoree Jadin Mix added two points and three rebounds, while Derby Kromer played solid defense with two steals and grabbed four rebounds in 13 minutes.
Alpena struggled from the field, shooting just 24.2% overall and 23.1% from three-point range. The Lumberjacks were outrebounded 53-34 and committed 11 turnovers compared to nine for the visitors.
The loss drops ACC to 1-19 overall and 0-10 in conference play as they wrap up their home schedule.
While the scoreboard was lopsided, the evening provided a chance to celebrate three sophomores who have represented Alpena Community College with heart and determination. Williams, Mix, and Kromer leave their mark on the program as they played their final game at Park Arena.
The Lumberjacks will play on Saturday at Montcalm Community College.
