Men's Basketball Back in Action
It’s been a busy time for ACC men’s basketball since winter break with games in Detroit, Muskegon and Sidney, Michigan as well as a home game mixed in.
The Lumberjacks lost their first four games in 2025, losing to Detroit Community College, 94-54, to Muskegon Community College, 82-51, to Kirtland Community College, 69-67 and to Montcalm Community College, 77-50.
In the only home game, against Kirtland, ACC led through much of the contest, including at halftime by a 34-27 margin. Early in the second half, the Firebirds cut the lead to one at 40-39, but ACC responded with a 9-2 run to push the lead back to 49-41 on back-to-back three-pointers by Xavier Blumberg and Robert Williams.
The Jacks held what looked to be a commanding 14-point lead, 65-51, with just 5:12 left in the game.
ACC scored only two points in their next six possessions, as a result of three turnovers, and missed shots on two possessions, as the lead was sliced to 67-61 with 2:28 to play.
A three-point shot fell for Kirtland to cut the lead to 67-64 with 1:58 to go. Another Lumberjack empty possession gave Kirtland the ball and its two free throws made it 67-66, ACC, with 59 seconds left.
The Lumberjacks missed three shots in their next possession, despite two offensive boards, and Kirtland took their first lead of the second half on a jumper with 15 seconds left. ACC failed to convert, was forced to foul, and Kirtland sank one of two.
ACC’s three-pointer at the buzzer missed and the Firebirds held on for the come-from-behind victory.
In all, the Lumberjacks missed their final eight shots from the floor and did not score from the field in the last 5:16 of the game.
Chas Stanek played all 40 minutes and scored 25 minutes and grabbed eight rebounds. Robert Williams contributed 15 points, five rebounds and four assists. Derian Williams had a double-double, 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Against Detroit Community Christian College, Stanek scored 12, Derian Williams had 10 and Xavier Blumberg 10. Nick Fileccia had eight points and seven rebounds. Jadin Mix tallied seven points and seven rebounds.
At Muskegon, Derian Williams led with 18 points. Stanek had 15 points and nine rebounds. Fileccia had 10 and 13 points and rebounds respectively.
Derian Williams again led ACC in scoring against Montcalm with 17. Stanek had 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Carmello Hurston had eight points and four steals.
The Lumberjacks (1-11 overall, 0-3 conference) host 18th ranked Bay College on Wednesday, Jan. 22 and 19th ranked Mid-Michigan College on Saturday, Jan. 25.
