Rocket League Loses to Mercyhurst in Tough Match
The Alpena Community College Lumberjacks Rocket League team suffered their first loss of the season Wednesday night, falling 4–0 to Mercyhurst in a highly anticipated matchup between two undefeated squads. Both teams entered the contest with perfect 4–0 records, setting the stage for what many expected to be one of the season’s most competitive series.
Instead, Mercyhurst delivered a commanding performance, sweeping the Lumberjacks in the best-of-seven series and handing ACC its first defeat.
From the opening kickoff, Mercyhurst established control of the pace. Strong rotations, quick challenges, and consistent offensive pressure kept the Lumberjacks on defense for much of Game 1. Despite several strong saves from Alpena, Mercyhurst broke through late to secure the first win of the series.
Game 2 followed a similar pattern. Alpena showed flashes of offensive potential with a few coordinated passing plays, but Mercyhurst’s defense held firm. Capitalizing on a counterattack and a well-placed aerial finish, Mercyhurst extended the series lead to 2–0.
With their backs against the wall in Game 3, the Lumberjacks attempted to shift momentum through more aggressive challenges and faster transitions. The strategy produced several scoring opportunities, but Mercyhurst continued to respond with disciplined positioning and efficient saves. A late goal put Mercyhurst ahead again, pushing the series to match point.
Game 4 proved to be the closest of the night. Alpena generated sustained pressure in the Mercyhurst half and came within inches of breaking through multiple times. However, Mercyhurst weathered the push and converted on another quick counterattack, sealing the sweep and improving to 5–0 on the season.
