Wallace State Takes Two from ACC
February 18, 2026 - Hanceville, AL
Wallace State's baseball team capped off a dominant Tuesday evening with a sweep of Alpena Community College, winning the opener 10-4 before shutting out the visitors 8-0 in the nightcap. The Lions showed off a balanced attack in both games, using walks, timely hitting, and steady pitching to put the Trojans away in convincing fashion.
Wallace State wasted little time taking charge of the opener, plating a run in each of the first two innings before erupting for four in the third to put the game away early.
The Lions drew 10 walks on the night and made them count. After scoring on a passed ball in the second inning, the floodgates opened in the third when Wallace State sent ten batters to the plate. A wild pitch and a pair of Alpena errors aided the cause, and the Lions' leadoff man capped the rally with a two-run single that made it 6-1. Wallace State added two more in the fourth on a single that scored a pair of runners, then got a two-run home run in the fifth to push the final margin to 10-4.
For Alpena, Kaden Benaske provided the offensive bright spot, going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI, including a two-run double in the fourth. Isaac Zocco added a run-scoring groundout in the second. Starter Kaleb Donajkowski took the loss, struggling with command as he walked seven and hit a batter over 2.2 innings.
The nightcap was never close. The Wallace State starter was dominant from the first pitch, striking out four and walking just three through four innings to earn the victory, and the Lions' bullpen combined to hold Alpena hitless the rest of the way. The Lions limited the Trojans to just two hits on the night, both by Isaac Zocco, while five Alpena errors turned routine outs into rallies.
Wallace State struck first in the first inning when the leadoff man was hit by a pitch, stole second, and scored on a groundout. The Lions blew the game open in the second, sending eight batters to the plate and scoring four runs. Back-to-back singles set things up, and then an error on a fly ball cleared the bases — plating three runners. The Lions added three more in the fourth on an RBI single, a sacrifice fly, and another run-scoring single.
ACC starter Lane Gross was tagged for eight runs over four innings, though only four were earned. The Lumberjacks committed five errors in all.
Zocco had hits in both ends of the doubleheader. Corbin Allen threw two innings of no hit, shutout relief.
The Jacks (0-8) continue their southern trip with games today against Lincoln Trail College (IL) and Calhoun Community College (AL) in Decatur, Alabama.
