Baseball Loses at Lawrence Tech
ACC's baseball squad against faced NAIA competition this weekend as the Lumberjacks traveled to the Total Sports complex in Wixon where they lost a doubleheader to Lawrence Tech by scores of 12-7 and 7-3.
The Blue Devils featured former ACC baseball players Max Coughlin and Brett Moroschan, both of whom transferred to Lawrence Tech following their two years in Alpena. Moroschan caught and played first base for LTU while Coughlin struck out in his only at-bat.
In the opener, the Jacks led 3-1 after an inning and a half of play, but Lawrence Tech took advantage of 10 ACC walks and stole 10 bases to take charge, scoring in every inning.
Freshmen Abel Walkotten and Nate Gould each had two hits to lead ACC's hitting as both teams had eight hits. Walkotten also had two RBI.
The nightcap was closer as the Blue Devils led only 5-3 after seven innings but scored two in the bottom of the eighth to pull away.
Freshman Miguel Salcedo doubled and singled and had two RBI to lead the Lumberjacks who managed only five hits.
Freshman Dylan Klein threw a scoreless inning of relief. Lane Gross struck out two in his two innings of work. Mason McQuillin threw the last three innings of the game for ACC, giving up only four hits, no walks and striking out two.
The Lumberjacks finished the weekend with intersquad games on Saturday and Sunday and will travel to the Davenport JUCO Showcase, playing in Rockford, Michigan next Saturday, Sept. 27 before hosting 18U travel team WOW Factor on Sunday, Sept. 28 to conclude the fall schedule.
