ACC Loses Doubleheader in Last Games in Tennessee
Despite a promising start, ACC was swept in baseball action by Volunteer State Community College, 12-7 and 12-0.
The Lumberjacks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning of game one on RBIs by Kaden Benaske and Aiden Bishop. After the Senators tied the score in the bottom half of the frame, Nate Koster put the Jacks back on top with a two-run homer in the top of the third.
A nine-run third inning by Vol State, however, put the game away for all intents and purposes, though ACC kept hitting, scoring in four of the game's seven innings.
Benaske was 3 for 3 with a double and two RBI. Koster was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Evan Fairbanks homered, scored twice and knocked in two runs.
Ethan Bergstein was stellar in relief, throwing three innings and giving up only one unearned run on one hit and one walk, striking out one.
In the nightcap, the Jacks managed only three hits, led by a Jake Zann double. Anthony Filippis struck out three in three innings of relief work.
With the wins, Volunteer State goes to 21-6 on the season while ACC drops to 1-11.
The Lumberjacks travel north to Toledo, Ohio tomorrow where Friday they will play a doubleheader against Terra State (3-7).
