Jacks Walk Off in Conference Win Against Bay
ACC scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn a 5-4 win over Bay College in MCCAA Northern Conference play.
The win was in game two of the doubleheader. The Norse took game one, 7-2.
After five and a half innings of play in the nightcap, Bay led 4-0. The Jacks scored one in the bottom of the sixth when Mitchell Walters reached on an error on his hard-hit ground ball and Matt Thompson followed with an RBI double in the gap.
In the seventh, Brendan DiBartolomeo led off with a single. With one out, Nate Koster singled to center and advanced to second on the throw to third. Kaleb Blaskowski then singled in a run to cut the lead to 4-2.
With two outs, Thompson again came up clutch, driving in both Koster and Blaskowski with a line-drive single. Brett Moroschan then delivered another two-out single, Evan Fairbanks walked and Caleb Stuck grounded to first and the fielder was unable to come up with the ball, plating Thompson with the winning run.
Tristan Simrau picked up the win with 1.1 innings of no-hit, scoreless pitching. Hunter Kosmerick started and struck out four in three innings, giving up only one hit and one unearned run.
Koster joined Thompson with two hits each in the victory. Walters also stole two bases.
Grant Slater took the tough loss in the opener, giving up only one unearned run in four innings. He gave up four hits, walked none and struck out three.
Thompson had three hits and stole two bases. DiBartolomeo had two hits.
ACC (6-17 overall, 3-7 conference) plays a non-conference doubleheader tomorrow at Northwood University before returning to Alpena for a four-game series against conference leaders Grand Rapids Community College this Friday and Saturday.
