League Leading GRCC Sweeps ACC
ACC gave Grand Rapids Community College its two biggest scares of the MCCAA Northern Conference season thus far but it wasn't enough as the Raiders swept the four-game series in Alpena by scores of 17-6, 5-4, 5-4 and 10-0. The one-run games both went into extra innings with GRCC winning in nine innings of Friday and in eight on Saturday.
The Raiders upped their conference mark to a perfect 16-0 and 27-10 overall. They only had one other one-run game in the conference season coming in.
For the weekend, Evan Fairbanks led the Lumberjacks at the plate with six hits and two stolen bases. Mitchell Walters had four hits, two RBI and three runs scored. Brett Moroschan posted three hits and two RBI.
Caleb Stuck led ACC with three RBI. Anthony Filippis scored four runs. Matt Thompson homered and drove in three runs.
On the mound, Grant Slater threw seven innings, giving up three earned runs, walking one and striking out three. Luke Gifford posted a 3.23 ERA in 4.1 innings.
The Lumberjacks (6-23, 3-11) host Lake Michigan College tomorrow at noon for a doubleheader.
