Baseball Closes Out Fall Season at Showcase
Playing for the second straight year at the Davenport University JUCO Showcase, ACC baseball had the opportunity to play before four-year college coaches and scouts.
The Lumberjacks fell to host Division 2 power Davenport, 13-3 and then lost on a walk-off home run against St. Clair County Community College, 7-5.
Against Davenport, the Jacks managed only three hits - by Mitchell Walters, Brendan DiBartolomeo and Nate Koster. Walters scored, stole a base and also reached base twice on walks. Koster and DiBartolomeo each had RBIs, as did Brett Moroschan. Nathan Valdivia also scored a run.
ACC dominated for the majority of the game against SC4, leading 5-0 in the fourth inning, before the Skippers scored five in the bottom of the fourth and two on a home run in the bottom of the fifth to win it.
The Lumberjacks spread the wealth at the plate as seven different players had hits - Walters, Koster, Matt Thompson, Caleb Stuck, Evan Fairbanks, Anthony Filippis and Eric Rogers, and five scored - Walters, Koster, Thompson, Stuck and Moroschan.
On the day, Walters reached base in six of his seven plate appearances with two hits.
ACC closes the fall season with a won-loss record of 4-6-1. The Lumberjacks were 1-0 against a high school travel team, 3-3-1 against fellow JUCO opponents and 0-3 against NCAA Division 2 squads.
