Lumber and Jacks Split Series; Jacks Take Tiebreak by One Run
If Coach Rob Enslen was looking to split up his squad into two evenly matched teams for the fall Lumber-Jacks World Series, he accomplished his mission.
After four games of play, only one run separated the two teams as the Jacks, coached by Coach Danny Sage, outdid the Lumber, coached by Coach Allen Telgenhof, by a total run count of 18-17, to take the series.
On Friday, the Jacks swept the doubleheader by scores of 6-4 and 7-1. With their backs against the wall, the Lumber came back on Saturday to earn a sweep to tie the series at two games apiece, 8-2 and 4-3.
For the Jacks, pitchers Tristan Simrau, Grant Slater and Wyatt Crawford led the way with both Simrau and Slater earning complete game wins. Their hitting was led by Matt Thompson, Corey Victor and Kaleb Blaskowski who had multiple hits for the weekend.
The Lumber was led at the plate by Mitchell Walters, Nathan Valdivia and Anthony Filippis. Walters also shone in the field. Nik Tulgestka was solid in two relief appearances and Max Ferrin and Brock Wing both won their starts on the mound.
The Lumberjacks finished their fall play next weekend hosting Bay College on Friday and traveling to Davenport University for a JUCO showcase on Saturday where ACC will play both the hosts and St. Clair County Community College.
