Lumberjacks Playing at Four Year Colleges
In just the fourth year of ACC baseball (since the sport left in 1972), the Lumberjacks have seen many players move on to play at the "next level."
There is also a Lumberjack softballer continuing her academic and athletic career as well. Let's catch up with these student-athletes.
Shae Lampinen is a senior catcher at the University of Olivet. In two seasons there, Shae has played in 38 games and has 31 plate appearances with a .300 on base percentage thus far this season for the Comets. Olivet is a Division III school competing in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) with a current overall record of 2-10.
Mitchell Walters is a junior infielder at Saginaw Valley State University, a Division II baseball program playing in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Mitchell is batting .190 thus far, with four RBI in nine games for the Cardinals. SVSU is off to a 12-9 start, holding down second place in the GLIAC with a 3-1 record. Last year, Mitchell batted .275 with a .491 on base percentage in 23 games for SVSU.
Nate Koster is another junior infielder also playing in the GLIAC, as Nate attends and plays for Purdue-Northwest, located in Hammond, IN. The Lions have a record of 6-11 overall, 1-3 conference. Nate is hitting .231 with a .474 on base percentage and three runs scored and two RBI in five games played.
Mitchell and Nate's teams crossed paths this past weekend with SVSU taking 3 of 4 and both Mitchell and Nate each starting one game for their teams.
Lawrence Tech, in Southfield, is the home of Lumberjacks Max Coughlin, a junior pitcher, and Brett Moroschan, a junior catcher/first baseman. The Blue Devils are an NAIA institution and compete in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC). Max sports an overall 4.05 ERA in five appearances and this week picked up his first win of the year with a complete game, 7 inning, five hit, one run conference victory over Michigan-Dearborn. He walked only two and struck out 10. Brett has yet to compete this spring for Lawrence Tech but saw action this fall, including a game against ACC.
Junior Kaleb Blaskowski is the ace of the pitching staff at Grace Christian University in Grand Rapids. Kaleb has thrown in 7 of the Tigers' 22 games and has a 4-2 record with a 3.63 ERA. He has struck out 33 in his 34.2 innings of work. In his last outing, Kaleb started and took a loss against Albion despite striking out four in four innings. Grace competes in the National Christian College Athletic Association.
Junior Brendan DiBartolomeo is a junior infielder at Calvin University (Grand Rapids) and is 1 for 4 with an RBI thus far this season. Calvin is a Division III school competing in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and has a 9-10 record thus far.

More Lumberjacks will be moving on next year - from this year's baseball team, Jacob Brohl has committed to attend and play for Lawrence Tech next year while his teammates Lane Gross and Max McCarty have committed to Earlham College and Pikeville University respectively. Other ACC athletes including Derian Williams (men's basketball), Saige Flaugher (women's basketball), Kirsten Neubecker (softball), Aiden Bishop (baseball), Marcus Castellon (baseball) and A.J. Wheelock (baseball) continue to be recruited by four-year schools but haven't made commitments yet.
