Tough Road Trip for ACC Basketball Teams
Alpena Community College's basketball teams didn't spend their day after Thanksgiving shopping, they endured a 5 1/2 hour bus trip to Centreville, the home of Glen Oaks Community College, where both squads lost to the host Vikings.
In the opener, ACC's women lost 67-49 and in the nightcap, the men lost 82-49. The following day the squads traveled to Southwestern Michigan College in Dowagiac and lost to the Roadrunners, 72-46 on the men's side and 77-48 on the women's.
For the men's contingent against Glen Oaks, the Lumberjacks were an ice cold 3 for 31 on three-point attempts which was the story of the game. Derian Williams was the only ACC player scoring in double figures with 13 points. Keyondre Gamez scored seven points and gathered five rebounds. Robert Williams had six points and five rebounds.
Against SMC, the Jacks didn't fare any better, shooting only 6 for 32 from three-point range and only 23% on two-point attempts. ACC trailed only 32-21 at the half.
Carmello Hurston led the Lumberjacks with nine points in 15 minutes of action. Chas Stanek scored seven and Jadin Mix, Nick Fileccia and Derian Williams each had six. Robert Williams scored four and again led ACC in rebounding with seven.
Similar to much of the season, the ACC women opened the game competitively against Glen Oaks, trailing only 10-9, but a 24-13 Viking advantage in the second gave them a 34-22 advantage at halftime.
The Jacks were only outscored in the second half, 33-27 but the damage was done. ACC shot better behind the three-point arc (28.6%) than they did inside it (26.5%). The Lumberjacks outrebounded Glen Oaks, 44-38.
Jessie Ross led all scorers with 17 keyed by four three-pointers. Saige Flaugher scored 11 points and had five steals. Jena Wambold had 10 points. Kenna Tippman was the leading ACC rebounder with six.
At Southwestern Michigan, Tippman led ACC with 10 points and four steals. Wambold and Flaugher each scored eight and Ross contributed seven. Anna Herbolsheimer pulled down six rebounds.
