Volleyball and Cross Country Open Seasons
ACC sports get off to a running (and jumping) start this week as the women's volleyball Lumberjacks participate in the BWW Corktown Pizza Timberwolves Quad Thursday and Friday in Petoskey. ACC will play Bay College, Kellogg Community College and host North Central Michigan College.
The men's cross country squad travels to Port Huron to open their season by participating in the St. Clair Community College invitational on Friday, Aug. 30.
On the volleyball side of things, ACC alum Courtney Holmes takes the helm of the volleyball program where she once was a player. The Lumberjacks return three from last season's team - Lilly Adams (West Branch), Maddi Dipzinski (Gaylord) and Gracie Hart (West Branch). The Jacks have one of their deepest teams in years with 12 players on the roster, which comes in handy early on as two ACC players have injuries.
Veteran coach Mark Jacobs looks to build upon last season where ACC had its best results in many campaigns. Eli Allen (Ossineke), Calvin Hibbler (Livonia), Ty Kailing (Reed City) and Benedikt Purat (Novi) return to anchor a team with four sophomores and four freshmen.
The first fall home event will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 17 when the ACC volleyball team hosts North Central Michigan College.
